From the founder

Early in my comedy career I was doing a lot of shows and spending time on the road. I was booked for a couple of shows in a town called Jacobs Bay, that I have never heard of or been to before. I remember the first time driving on a lonely rural road with only the lonely hills of the West Coast to keep you company and suddenly coming over a hill and seeing the ocean and the beautiful town of Jacobs Bay with its unique architecture and building styles. That night I did a show at the venue originally called “Weskusplek” . The setting stole my heart and the friendliness and hospitality I experienced form the locals, made me return a couple of months later to work on my next piece. This became a routine and Jacobs Bay became a place where I found calmness and inspiration. In 2021 I realized a dream of mine, purchasing my own piece of property in Jacobs Bay and in December of 2023 we approached the owners of the restaurant and property with an offer to purchase and so “Daai Plekkie in die Weskus” was born and the dream and journey I embarked on came full circle. Daai Plekkie in die Weskus is everything the people of the West Coast stand for: Friendliness, hospitality, storytelling, warmth and comfort food. My wish is for every person who visits us to fall in love with this part of the world the way I did! Wees Kalm! -Rikus de Beer
